Today is a good day for America. It's another step forward since desegregation, arguably the final step, the last step that can be cleared through ballots and politics. Today America comes clean with its deepest self-inflicted wound and source of shame.
It's clear now that the majority of voters did not let race decided their vote. Of course there are still those who let race decide whether they were for or against Obama. There will continue to be those who vote this way in the future, but they didn't decide this election, and that is a victory for America we can all be proud of. So if you, like me, didn't vote for Obama because he said he'd raise taxes on rich people or because Biden is supposedly (allegedly, according to my mother) notoriously pro-China in regards to Taiwan, that's alright, what's important is that you voted against him for the right reasons. And what are the right reasons? That is debatable, but they definitely don't include race.
Back in 2000, to be fair, that is without the benefit of hindsight, no one could say that they KNEW Al Gore was going to be an awesome president and they KNEW Bush was going to be, well, the end of the world. Now, 2008, I still don't think anyone can say they KNOW Obama is going to be an awesome president or they KNOW McCain would make an awful president. In Gore and McCain's case we'll never find out, but we're going to find out about Obama; He could make a great president and we're giving him that chance because we were able to look past the color of his skin. That's not to be taken for granted. That is very cool.
Alright, I'm going to scrounge together something alcoholic now, because even though my guy lost, there's still a cause for celebration today. Cheers!

So how about that? I'd like to see China elect a Tibetan Premier. Heck, they've had 5000 years to do so.
I mean, comparatively, we are. But I think that is not just due to prejudices passed on from generation to generation, but because racism is ingrained in our social and financial structure too. The people I lived with in England and I discussed this a fair bit last fall.
That would certainly be news worthy. As much as I'd love to see that happen, I think such an occurrence is still going to be a while in coming about.
I'm more generous about America's progress on racism. I mean, Germany has never elected a Jewish president right? We've had Kissinger, and people don't even feel guilty about disliking him. I concede that I grew up in Northern California though, and my view is skewed because my dad made it great here despite being a first generation immigrant.
Keep waiting. It's going to be a long time, and never as long as the communist party is in power.
Um, I agree with what you said, no one can really say that Obama will be a great president, but then we also can't say that he will be a bad one either. We just have to wait and see. Mucho all that hope people are talking about.
Yes, cheers~!
omg i can barely type at this hour lol.http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4312411/3/C
I don't remember if I showed you the original of this, but there's fabulous Clovis in it and a significant rewrite.
Also, you wouldn't happen to be in to Bleach, would you?
mm clovis.
i waited for you.was into bleach a long long longggg time ago. but now am disinterested in it.
Why does everyone say that? Clovsi: I waited for you? Explain that to me.
Would you mind reading something I've written for Bleach? It's been a while, but the premise is fresh and I'm sure you haven't seen a fic of this couple before. If you feel like it, write to hwudavid@gmail.com and I'll send you my draft of it so far.
*Wobbly*
Not very interested since I only remember the four main character's names and a few on the side. So I don't think I would be all too helpful, sorry. Plus I never read any Bleach fic when I was reading the manga. >>
It seemed certain to me that Obama was going to win though...
Offtopic question: Did you make all your LJ icons? Because I saw someone use some of the same icons as you do on the geass community...
BTW, you ever played Persona 3? Seen some impressive quality and quantity of fan art for it. I'm somewhat intriuged. *Shipper's sense going off*
Persona 4 is rated 17+, your bro said it was because people shot themselves in the head as part of the game.
Lol, you ane-con. I like Junpei. He's so adorable. "Dun dun dun dun dun dun!! LEVEL UP!!!" his catch phrase when he levels up :)
I'm an Ane-con because people look at me and think I'm married and have kids. I'm 23 dammit. Being an ane-con makes me feel younger.
I wrote a start to a Bleach story. Bleach done Hachikuro style. Interested?
Depends on the pairing. I've forgotten a lot of bleach already, and can barely remember any character's name except the main ones.
Um, so when I'm trying to get married three years from now I'm going to look 40 and no one aged 21-26 would consider marrying me? I'm screwed. Thanks a lot.
Ichigo and Tatsuki (tom boy osananajimi, minor chara). Platonic so far, light, comedy.
Oh those two :o Well, if you want, send it over and I'll look over it when I have the time.
If I look 30, drive a BMW, and make 250,000 a year I might do okay. Thing is, I want to look 30, drive a Toyota, and pretend I make 50,000 a year when I go looking for a wife. Maybe I'm naieve though.
Are you srsly going to "look for a wife"? You're being too practical. Forget the money factor. Girls nowadays don't want to marry so early anyway. Actually, I have a Catholic classmate (girl) who told me "who marries nowdays?" which kind of shocked me orz.
Oh great... alright, I'll go looking for one.
And now i shall return to study. Thanks for the break :D
