Little league Taiwan (Current political correctness says that it should say "Chinese Taipei", but what the hell is that?) v Mexico on ABC right now. Taiwan is up 4-0. Winner plays the winner of California v Texas for the championships. California v. Texas... now there's a politically controversial match up if there ever was one; got nothing on China v Taiwan. I can imagine the 12 year olds plunking heads and rushing the mound and brawling already over Roe. v. Wade... or not.

Going to a Taiwanese community bbq later. Going to hit 100 degrees. Sigh...

Jonathan Sanchez no Hitter

Gintama, Shinpachi

First time in SF Giants in 33 years. 7th no hitter in SF Giants history, 16 no hitter in 120+ years NY Giants/SF Giants history. No. 258 in MLB history.

It should really be the 17th Perfect Game*. The asterisk is because Sanchez walked no one, and the only base runner reached on an error by Juan Uribe. In Uribe's defense (whose probably feeling like shit right now), it was a tough bounce and a hard play to make. Sanchez ends up with 11Ks, 0 BB, 0 hits, 110 pitches over 9 innings.

What makes the story better is: Sanchez is an up and coming homegrown star in the Giants system, with Cy Young stuff, but slow to develop mental fortitude and maturity. Poor start this season saw him sent down to the Bullpen for 2 weeks. Randy Johnson's injury gave him his second chance and he grabbed it. His dad flew from Puerto Rico to watch him play for the first time; really good timing. Rest of family was here too.

Man... this may be the only SF Giants no-hitter I see in my lifetime. Chances are good I'll see another one though, with the young pitching that the Giants have.
